online poker
NaNo asked:

I’m an exchange student in Washington for this year, and I’m used to play online poker in Spain using Paradise Poker. I already have money on my account and I paid that with my Spanish debit card. Do you know if it’s illegal for me to play online poker here? Or is it ilegal just for Washington residents? Thanks.

Go to a casino in Washington and ask a pit person.

Online poker is not illegal in the United States. The UIGEA port law restricts banks from transfering money to online gamnling sites. However, only Mastercard is the only credit card company that has a restriction on it. Most sites like Paradise, Poker Stars, FTP now allow you to use your personal checking account to deposit and withdraw but after a 10 day wait period. Since your statis is probably still registared in Spain you shouldnt have any issue.

Actually I think that Washington was one of the Naziesque states that tried to ban online gambling. So it might actually be illegal in that state. And it doesn’t matter if you are foreign, you are still required to abide by local, state and national laws.

All that said, America does not typically go around arresting people for playing poker online. The fact that you are not depositing or withdrawing money from an American bank account would mean you are probably very safe.

I really wouldn’t imagine you would get in any kind of trouble for playing poker online with an account already established, and funded legally while you were in Spain.

I wouldn’t worry about it.
